He Has My Number, But He Didn’t Call. Should I Call Him?

Seven says:

okay so me and this guy exchanged numbers, he only has his landline because his parents keep taking his phone(s) and we called the other day, he said he would call yesterday, he didnt. idk if he thought i was gonna call, bc we couldn’t really hear each other. but i really like this boy and when we were together last we really hit it off (we met in the hospital) he lives 3 hours from me so i cant just go see him. but like should i wait? should i just forget about him and move on or? the other thing is, he gave me his number first, and twice, he has my number cuz well we called and i know he can call me back bc he did the other day. idk what to do. help.

Dear Seven,

First of all, congratudolences. It’s great you found someone you hit it off with so well! But, with him living so far, I am sending over my thoughts and prayers.

Addressing the contact situation: I think you should wait a bit, and allow him to come to you. Just give it a couple days, and see what he does! I’ve always been one to chase (not that you’re chasing), and, in turn, it does nothing but make me obsessed and push them away. But every time I’ve let them come to me, not only do I have more confidence in myself, but it also offers me more clarity with the situation. I’m not blinded by the giddiness of having a crush; I can simply see the guy for how he is, and from there, I can determine if we would be a good match.

That being said, I also think it is important to reach out first sometimes. Showing interest is essential in those beginning stages of talking to someone. A rule I like to follow is this: don’t chase, but if I want to reach out first, I will. I always give myself one free pass: I can text or call them first once, and from there, I see what his next moves are. If it continues to go well from that point on, I let the rule dissolve. But if he’s giving mixed signals or if he doesn’t respond, I let him go and move on.

So, ultimately, I say give it a couple days. If he doesn’t call you, just call him. If he doesn’t answer, then that’s your cue to move on. If it feels weird and you can’t gauge his interest, leave the ball in his court. If it goes well? Well, then, congratulations on your new man!

Wishing you all the best! You got this!

xoxo,
